In 2013, after nomination and several qualifying stages, the Red Diamond Sports Club received the Queens Award for voluntary service.
With that, several lucky members were invited to attend at Buckingham Palace and accept the award on behalf of the club.
That award stands proudly in our display cabinet at the Leisure Centre.
The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK for outstanding work in their local communities for the benefit of others.
The award which is the equivalent of an MBE was created by Her Majesty in 2002 to celebrate her Golden Jubilee.
This major UK national honour sets the national benchmark for excellence in volunteering.
